Jan Morgan Wood
This is a beautiful book for
anyone who is a gardener of any sort and for those seeking the sacred
in nature. Within the beautiful feast of words and stunning photographs,
we see the natural cultivated world of plants and landscape through
the author’s enthusiastic eyes and heart. Yes, heart - for
this is a book of passion. In her own words: “ For those in
a love affair with nature, gardening can be no less than a taste
of heaven itself.”
After many years as an artist
and gardener, Pamela’s own path led her into garden design.
Her travels around the world amongst wild places and ancient sacred
landscapes, looking at everything folk shrines to temple gardens,
gave her a deep sense of how we humans have related to the sacred
earth through time. She began to realise the possibility of building
gardens of meaning, “ where the sacred act of placing one’s
feet and hands on the land could once more become alive”
Pamela’s garden designs now draw on this awareness - from
tiny courtyards to large public spaces - express beauty and form,
celebrate the sacred, and aim to harmonise all who walk in them.
This comprehensive overview of spiritual gardening is presented
like a delightful tour, with vivid descriptions of actual places
and people. There is no dry theorising - the writing is always fresh
and green and singing - like a good garden should be ! There are
fascinating accounts of how garden designs develop in partnership
with her clients, exploring their spiritual needs and dreams, as
their gardens become real energy connecting and healing places for
them.
---------------------------
Pamela works at the forefront
of mainstream contemporary garden design in a wide range of settings
and shows us how our cultural awareness of the sacred is now being
renewed and re-connected in a very direct, tangible and enjoyable
way.
Simple graphic illustrations,
helpful plans and John Glover's evocative photography combine with
spiritual theories and practical garden advice to help you create
a space that is full of peace and resonance – an extension of your
own soul and somewhere you will feel completely at home.
